NON RESIDENT OHV PERMIT RULES
All vehicles operated off-highway on public lands in California are required to be (1) street-licensed or (2) registered as an off-highway vehicle (OHV). If you are visiting California from another state and your vehicle does not have a current registration from your home state, you must purchase a California Nonresident OHV Use Permit before you recreate on public lands. A title sticker or title plate is not registration.
The 2017 Nonresident permits will be valid from the date of sale through December 31, 2017. 2018 Permits go on sale mid November and are good during the entire 2018 calendar year only. You can order online or see a list of vendors HERE. The Nonresident OHV Use Permit fee is $30.
MORE If you are a resident of another state and your OHV has valid registration from that state, you do not need a California Green or Red Sticker or a California Nonresident OHV Use Permit. A non-resident from the remaining 34 states need not purchase California's permit as long as they can provide valid proof that they have a current registration or their home state's equivalent for their OHV. If a nonresident cannot provide valid proof of possessing such a document, they must purchase the California Nonresident OHV Use Permit.
FIRE PERMIT RULES AND INFO The latest info reads: Stage III fire restrictions have been lifted for Imperial County as of Thursday, October 5. Public Lands managed by the El Centro Field Office (including the Imperial Sand Dunes) remain in Stage I fire restrictions. Stage I fire restriction definition: Campfires, barbecues and gas stoves are allowed with a permit. Permits can be obtained at BLM Office U.S. Forest Service or Cal Fire offices or online at www.preventwildfireca.org. Each permit is good until the end of the calendar year of the year it was purchased in.
