Momentum can simultaneously be your friend and enemy as Cyle Chislock demonstrates here. During our photo shoot we had him hauling butt up to the rim of this monster dune and pitching it sideways to roar back down. He had been fighting the machine's desire to tip a number of times when whipping out the 180-degree maneuver, and this time it won. Here momentum not only caused the "Holy s**t!" roll but kept him moving until he stopped right side up and seated with that "Isn't this how everyone rolls a quad?" expression. Nonetheless, I was very impressed as I kept shooting to capture all the carnage-it's my job. Fortunately, the only casualties were the flag whip and some chafing in the sand-packed gear. Art Director Joe Neric stitched the sequence together to give it that ethereal ballet-performance look.
