New ATVs are desperately thin on the ground these days, as manufacturers focus their efforts on the faster-growing side-by-side market, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t new models to be had. At AIMExpo last week CFMoto unveiled the CForce 800 Touring and the CForce 1000 Touring, a pair of what we’ll call rec-ute ATVs.
Both models get a new, fuel-injected V-twin that feeds power through a CVT automatic. In 800cc form, CFMoto says the engine makes 75 hp and 52 lb.-ft. of torque in a stout 959-pound package. The 1000 bumps engine displacement to 963cc for 90 hp and 63 lb.-ft. of torque in a 963-pound package.
Both rigs get a jazzy TFT display, but stepping up to the 1000 gets you compression-and-rebound adjustable suspension, as well as the extra power. CFMoto is clearly marketing these things for the weekend adventure crowd. They’re prettier than strict utility rigs, and way too big to be anything like a sport machine. With a CVT turning the wheels, they should be easy enough for anyone to hop on and go.
Then there’s the price tag. CFMoto has built a reputation for making competitive machines for a bargain, and the CForce Touring lineup retails for $9,299 for the 800 and $9,999 for the 1000. For machines with slick fit and finish and available adjustable suspension, that’s a great price. If you can stomach not having a North American manufacturer’s badge staring back at you from the dash, CFMoto is building a serious contender.
For our money, the CForce 1000 Touring is worth the $700 upcharge, at least on paper. Both rigs are close to the same weight, and the extra horsepower and adjustable shocks are huge pluses in the 1000′s column.
