The scientists over at Grind Hard Plumbing Co are in full winter mode. Their latest creation brings together a Polaris sport quad and a dirt bike Timbersled snow kit. If it’s your first time hearing about Grind Hard, then you’re probably asking, “Why do such a thing?” Our advice is don’t ask, just enjoy. These boys aren’t confined by the same creative spaces as most people. They do whatever they want, and that includes reinventing the already perfected machine that most of us know as a snowmobile.
In this week’s installment they’re sourcing a skinny dirt bike Timbersled kit to bolt up to a Polaris racing quad. First they strip the quad’s two front wheels and the entire rear axle to make way for the winter parts. With a little grinder work they’re able to notch the rear of the quad’s transmission to allow the sled to bolt up and still be reversible for other seasons. They also mill their own aluminum sleeve for the swingarm pivot in their shop. As you would expect, the front suspension requires two skis and some custom machine work to get things mated correctly. All said and done, only a small amount of J-B Weld, a single linkage piece from a Honda Odyssey, and a minor amount of welding were required to get the quad-sled built and ready for some epic winter riding.

Grind Hard’s Ethan Schlussler sums it up perfectly by saying, “I think what you get here, um, are the worst parts of a snowmobile and the worst parts of a snowbike… It’s also really fun.”
