The Dallas region is about to gain a new electric vehicle manufacturer. Denago EV, which makes low-speed vehicles and golf carts, recently announced that it would take over the former Dallas Morning News printing facility, localizing a significant portion of its operations as tariff threats heat up.

Denago paid $43.5 million for the property and said it would initially build golf carts at the location, though it could eventually expand to UTV and ATV production for the company’s powersports division. Tariffs threaten to upend every part of the global supply chain and could make some vehicles significantly more expensive, but moving production to the US is expensive and doesn’t sidestep tariffs altogether due to imported components and raw materials.

Beyond golf carts, Denago’s powersports division makes dirt bikes and ATVs, most of which feature internal combustion engines. Its electric E-Hawk 6 ATV costs $1500 and is targeted at youth riders, but all available dirt bike models are gas-powered.

The Dallas Morning News will move to a smaller leased facility, and its CEO said the move will help fund its pension program for more than 1300 current and former workers. There is no word on Denago’s timeline for taking over and retrofitting the facility for vehicle production.
