These are quite possibly the final evolution of the tie-down. Previous to Lockstraps, the major differences between the good, bad and ugly when it came to tie-downs was quality of materials. Lockstraps are high quality, made in the USA, cam buckle tie-downs that double as a theft deterrent system. First developed after "Lockstrap" owner Jeff Cranny experienced a heart breaking theft of his personal motorcycle. Owning multiple cable locks, but realizing that only a lock in use could actually deter theft. Jeff was most likely a victim of the "crime of opportunity" quick grab bike theft. Looking in the back of any ATV or Motorcycle enthusiast's pickup truck, there was one thing you find in common, tie downs. If a tie down could double as a sturdy cable lock, it would always be in place, thieves should be discouraged, and look for an easier target. Jeff's idea for the Lockstrap was to incorporate a heavy duty, quality motorcycle tie down with combination locking carabiners at both ends.
Dirt bikes and ATV's are only a small percentage of the things that can benefit from convenient theft protection. Jeff designed the Lockstrap at 8.5 feet long and with a 2-foot long soft tie extension. These dimensions are perfect for everything from ATV/ Motorcycle use to Boats to Ladders and Generators. The two-foot soft tie extensions help prevent scratched paint jobs, and can secure other valuable items along with your ATV. The Lockstrap features two durable 1.5" layers of nylon webbing, sandwiched over an 8-braid stainless steel cable, creating a 500 lb. working load strap that is very difficult to cut. Both ends feature a combination locking, #64 hardened steel carabiner, and multiple HD steel rivets to insure the strap cannot be undone. The locking carabiners will also lock your $90 set of tie-downs to your pick up, discouraging unwanted friends from "borrowing" them as well.
Everybody who rides, needs a good set of tie downs and a lock, now you can have the convenience of both in one package. Even a super gnarly, ultra heavy-duty lock can be penetrated if the thief has the right tools. Seeing that most bike thefts seem to be crimes of opportunity, we like the idea of not making our beloved toys look like prime targets. Having the Lockstrap permanently locked in the back of our truck has kept it from getting "borrowed", and our ATV's are now always locked up when we have to leave the truck. The oversized carabiners will even lock through most pick up bed stake pockets. We attempted to cut the strap and it is surprisingly resilient. Standard bolt cutters will clip a 1/2" master cable or similar cable lock with very little force, the Lockstrap's combination of nylon and braided stainless inner cable will not cut with typical bolt cutters. The embedded cable makes the cam buckle slightly more difficult to operate, but that that is a small price to pay for the extra security you feel every time you have to leave your loaded pickup truck for a bite to eat, or even to run in and pay for gas. Meals are a lot more enjoyable when your not worried sick about your whip getting lifted, and we also appreciate being able to secure our accessories as well. We would recommend Lockstraps to anyone involved in any form of Powersports.
