There can be no doubt the RZR line of side-by-side machines are popular since they always seem to be flying out of dealers' showrooms at a crazy rate. One thing that many people install once they take possession of theirs is a good set of bumpers. The RZR line lacks protection for the front and rear of the machine off the assembly line, but a quick glance through the Pure Polaris accessory catalog can quickly provide an alternative. I chose to go the digital route and used Polaris's customizing feature on its website to see how the items selected would look on my RZR 4.
I opted for the standard Pre Runner front and rear brushguards as I thought they gave the machine a clean yet sporty look. The guards I ordered came in a black finish, but they are available in a regular brushed-aluminum finish for those who'd rather have that kind of a look. The front brushguard is light and bolts to the lower part of the frame and radiator support and has two small tabs that are capable of holding a 12-inch LED light bar or a variety of other lighting options. The lower of the rear guard bolts to the frame, and the upper portion is bolted to light-duty brackets and then to the upper frame/bed mount. The installation of the guards was fairly simple and took minimal time (15 to 20 minutes, to be exact) because all of the parts fit perfectly.
While the guards can be perceived as bumpers, I wouldn't push them to the limits in any racing conditions. Yes, they'll protect your SxS from light impacts, but the light construction and mounting points won't withstand a solid hit from another SxS or objects that pop up determined to stop you in your tracks. Since the price of the front is $199 and the rear only $149, you're getting what you're paying for. While I don't consider them a good racing option, they were fine for such light duty as I put them through. -Eli Madero
