The Rotax 850 V-twin has been a part of the Can-Am Outlander ATV family for more than 15 years now. The Max edition refers to the stretched chassis that provides additional seating for a passenger with an elevated seat and raised floorboard for a better viewing experience. If you can swing it, jump up to the Outlander Max XT-P 850. It has the same goodies as the XT, but it also comes with some major upgrades like beadlock wheels and Fox 1.5 Podium QS3 adjustable shocks. A 7.6-inch digital display is almost twice the size of the display on the XT. The XT-P also gets the Visco-4Lok drivetrain, which lets the rider fully engage and disengage the front differential for true 4WD performance.
With 78 ponies on hand, the 854cc Rotax V-twin engine puts enough power to the ground to rival the competition’s 1,000cc class ATVs offerings. Can-Am’s Intelligent Throttle Control system takes EFI to another level with controllable starts and highly responsive power output. The CVT features low and high range operation and excellent engine-braking capabilities. The rider can select between 2WD and 4WD on the fly. The Outlander Max XT 850 receives Can-Am’s standard Visco-Lok auto-locking front differential, while the Outlander Max XT-P 850 goes one step further with an on-demand fully locking front differential.
Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering provides the right amount of steering assist for every terrain type. Can-Am raised the bar when it introduced trailing-arm suspension to ATVs. The Outlander tracks straight and true, especially at higher speeds. Up front on the Outlander Max XT 850, arched double A-arms provide additional ground clearance with the assistance of oil-charged shocks. The Outlander Max XT-P gets upgraded to Fox 1.5 Podium shocks that can be adjusted for better shock performance on all trail types.
The Outlander Max 850 is fitted with dual 214mm disc brakes and twin-piston calipers up front. A single 214mm disc brake and twin-piston caliper stops both rear wheels.
The seat is all-day comfortable. Large footwells provide plenty of space to move around. The passenger gets raised footwells, an elevated seat, and a backrest.

The Outlander Max XT 850 comes with a 4.5-inch digital display that provides a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hourmeters, gear position, 4x4 indicator, temperature, engine indicators, electronic fuel gauge, and a clock. The Outlander Max XT-P has a 7.6-inch display. Headlights use halogen bulbs. Can-Am’s Digitally Encoded Security System (DESS) key won’t allow the vehicle to start if the key isn’t in place.
A six-month limited factory warranty is included with MSRP. Extended terms are available for purchase through B.E.S.T.
