Thrashed: Innovate Motorsports LM-2 Digital Air-Fuel Ratio Meter Kit

As most of you have experienced, working on our ATVs and UTVs ourselves has become somewhat of a must-do in order to save the cash we have for the fuel to go in them. This means creating new ways to gain valuable horsepower and overall perfected performance without buying hundreds of dollars in bolt-on gadgets. As you may or may not know, the simplest way to get a few extra ponies in any gas-burning vehicle is to fine-tune the fuel mix or air-fuel ratio. The risk of getting the mix wrong can be as simple as a rough-running plug-fouling rattle can or destroying the engine itself completely.

After a lot of trial and error I began searching for a better way to get my fuel delivery perfected. I found a shortcut in a tool that allows me to figure out just how rich or lean an engine is running and a host of other things as well. My piggyback fuel controller can then be adjusted in the rpm ranges where I need to tweak. The Innovate LM-2 Air-Fuel Ratio Meter kit was fairly simple to operate, with the welding in of the oxygen-sensor bung being the most complicated part. The device helped me not only find a cylinder that was running way rich on my Outlander but also allowed me to record how the engine was performing in each rpm during a ride through the trails. The Innovate Logworks software that comes packed in the box gave me a way to view the data that was logged by the LM-2, and I then simply adjusted the map on my fuel controller. It's a lot to learn, but knowledge is power, and the Innovate website has a lot of resources for those moments when your mind isn't getting it. - Rick Sosebee
