When Yamaha’s Raptor 250 was introduced in 2008, not only was it a great entry level trail or race machine, is gave a whole platform to build “Hybrid” machos on. In the ATV world, a Hybrid is basically an ATV chassis outfitted with a more powerful and lighter dirt bike engine.
The concept was started prior to the introduction of the modern day four stroke ATV in 2004. However, there has bee a resurgence lately especially in classes featuring younger riders that can’t officially compete in the adult classes. Recently we discovered a beautiful custom Hybrid built for youth rider Seth Lattimer. This ATV started life out as 2013 Yamaha Raptor 125. This was the Raptors last year of production and the 125 basically uses the same chassis components as the larger 250 which is also has been discontinued unfortunately.
Seth’s dad fabricated brand new engine mounts to accept the liquid cooled Honda CRF 150 four stroke engine. This is one of the most powerful mini cycle engine you can buy. It’s what all the top super cross riders spend time on just before stepping up to a full sized 250 bike. In the quad, a handful of the motorcycle parts get used such as the electrical, carburetor, cables and levers. A radiator was sourced out of a YFZ450 and of course mounts had to be made. The photo gallery below will highlight some of the other parts it took to put this awesome youth Hybrid together.
